Etude du magnétisme des systèmes
géométriquement frustrés RMn2Hx. Influence de
la pression et des substitutions chimiques.

Abstract : In Laves phases hydrides AMn2Hy (A = Y or magnetic rare earth), the hydrogen lattice strongly interacts with the magnetic sublattices, especially with the topologically frustrated Mn lattice. We have studied the magnetic order by neutron diffraction and inelastic neutron scattering, and we have observed a great variety of magnetic behaviors controlled by the presence or not of rare earth magnetism, the substitutions in the frustrated Mn sublattice, the H content and the amount of H order. This work has revealed new magnetic phases combining strong magnetic disorder and high ordering temperatures. Pressure induces fascinating features in these disordered compounds chemical segregation of hydrogen, isostructural transitions or even the stabilisation of a new type of long range magnetic order.
Moreover, we have performed the first neutron diffraction study under pressure in the topologically frustrated compound Tb2Ti207, which shows spin liquid behavior, and have observed the onset of long range magnetic order.
