Abstract : This synthesis work presents the relationship between school geography and, in one hand the field of geographical knowledge, with its different focuses: scientific geography, applied geography, media geography and vernacular knowledge; and in the other hand, the school context which is mould by society claims, in a political context, with its standard knowledge and pedagogical models always moving on.
Along the two latest centuries of teaching geography at primary school, materials collected in this synthesis work are used to test a descriptive model of the organisation of the geographical knowledge. At last, all the collected information allows to reconstruct initial model and to put forward a new explicative model of geographical contents taught at school; at the crossing of geographical knowledge of a society by the purposes that this society allocates to its school.
