Caractérisation de l'homogénéité de mélange de poudres et de l'agitation en mélangeur Triaxe®

Abstract : In order to characterize agitation and mixing in the Triaxe® mixer, we developed a software which is able to control the mixer, to follow the operating conditions (stirring velocities and torque developed by the engines) and to analyze the quality of themixture in real time.

The measurment of the torque developped by the engines at the time of the mixture made it possible to identify the modes of flows present in this type of mixer.

The implementation and the validation of the image analysis method to measure the quality of the mixture made it possible to follow the kinetic evolution of binary mixtures of two free flowing powders (couscous and semolina) and a free flowing powder and a cohesive powder (couscous and lactose).

This study allowed to characterize this new mixing equipment, to define the operational protocols to use, according to the properties of the powders, in order to obtain an effective mixture in term of short mixing time and low power consumption. Correlations based
on adimensional numbers as well as a correlation linking time of mixture and the stirring velocities were given.
