Détection de nuages de poussière dans les images Météosat à l'aide des attributs de textures et de la fusion de segmentations : application à la zone sahélienne du continent africain

Abstract : Environment, atmosphere's management and protection constitute a major concern for the world since a certain number of years. The satellite remote sensing can provide a main tool in the search of solutions to the follow up of development and environmental protection. Taking advantage of remote sensing, this thesis aims at the exploitation of images taken from the Meteosat satellite for the detection of dust clouds on the sahelian zone of the African continent. Dust clouds are fine particles of sand and dust made airborne by surface winds and which can be transported on very long distances. Here, we use some image processing techniques. Thus, in a first step, an approach consists of determining the texture attributes in order to segment the image into three areas: ocean, continent, water clouds. Then, a multimodal tresholding technique is applied to determine the different areas on the continent including those indicating the presence of dust clouds. Finally, we apply a fusion segmentation method based on the theory of fuzzy sets. The results of this approach appear to be relevant and have a good analogy forms in comparison with the IDDI images, results of another approach used here for reference.
