Déformation et convection d'une ou plusieurs capsules en écoulement dans un tube cylindrique.

Abstract : A capsule is a small particle that consists of an internal liquid medium enclosed by a thin elastic membrane. Capsules often flow into confined space, particularly into narrow cylindrical tubes. The membrane may undergo partial dissolution and capsules may become swollen. In the tube, capsules take ‘parachute' or ‘slug' shapes. The change of curvature at the rear part of a capsule strongly depends on the preinflation level and the capillary number, but is independent of the size ratio between the capsule and the tube. A numerical model, based on the Stokes equations combined with a boundary integral formulation, allows us to characterize mechanics of swollen capsules enclosed by an alginate membrane.
When two capsules interact, they are spaced by less than a pore radius. The pressure drop of a capsule train is the sum of those created by each isolated capsule.
