Amélioration du comportement au feu de polyéthylène téréphtalate et d'alliages polyéthylène téréphtalate/polycarbonate recyclés.

Abstract : In this study, we developed new strategies for improving fire behavior of PolyEthylene Terephthalate (PET) recycled. The objectives of this work are to prepare composites and/or blends, based on a recycled PET matrix, with controlled mechanical properties and improved fire behavior, with the aim to develop technical applications of recycled PET in electrotechnical and household sectors. Such a project addresses the issue of reclaimed PET waste management and consequently is both an ecological and economical concern. Three strategies have been developed. First, the incorporation of a minor fraction of recycled PolyCarbonate (PC) into PET. For these PET/PC blends, a compatibilisation can be obtained by reactive extrusion. The addition of relevant catalysts allows accelerating the transesterification reaction taking place between the two polymers and finally to form, in situ, copolymers of PET and PC which stabilise the blend. Secondly, the addition of chain extenders, the TriPhenylPhosphite (TPP), during a reactive extrusion process, allowing to obtain a high viscosity resin. In order to develop an efficient fire retardant system for recycled PET due care must be taken to its low intrinsic viscosity. The TPP has the advantage of lengthening the chains of PET and containing phosphorus. An important synergic between the copolymers and the TPP have been observed Finally, the introduction of organoclays. The clays used was montmorillonite and kaolinite. Theses three strategies allow obtaining an interesting fireproof composite.
