Le système EPOergique cérébral : caractérisation et implication dans la protection neuronale au cours de l'épileptogenèse

Abstract : Our work performed in rats submitted to a severe status epilepticus (SE) is the first to provide evidence that reactive production of erythropoietin (Epo) by local astrocytes is the optimal condition to support the most vulnerable neuronal population, when combined with exogenous administration of Epo. The receptor mediating Epo-induced neuroprotection is believed to be composed of Epo receptor (Epo-R) and common β chain (βc). The absence of coordinated regulation that we noted between Epo-R and βc, throughout postnatal development and ageing on one hand, and in response to SE on the other hand, refute the hypothesis that βc may constitute part of receptor mediating neuroprotective effect of Epo.
