Nouveaux oxydes et oxyfluorures divisés à base de cérium à propriétés anti-UV

Abstract : This work deals with the synthesis and the characterization of Ce1-xCaxO2-x oxides and new Ce1-xCaxO2-x-y/2Fy oxyfluorides. The Ce1-xCaxO2-x oxides are well known for their UV-shielding ability. Then, the original feature of this work is the incorporation of Ca2+ and F- ions into ceria CeO2 leading to interesting optical properties. The strong electronegative character of F- ions contributes to reduce the electronic polarizability of the network and then the refractive index in visible range compared to Ce-Ca based oxides. 19F NMR spectroscopy was used to study the local environment of fluoride ions. The cerium local environment, the final fluorine content and the physico-chemical properties depend also on the tetravalent cations (Zr4+, Sn4+) partially substituted for Ce4+ cations. Finally, the fluorination of ceria is reported.
The UV-shielding properties of these compositions are evaluated and correlated to the chemical composition and to structural features.
