Abstract : This thesis describes in three chapters the application of registration methods (geometric or iconic) for three different applications in urology. For the most part of theses applications, ultrasound (US) is used as per-operative imaging tool.
1/ Percutaneous puncture of the kidney is performed to reach a target inside the kidney. First, a geometric registration method between CT scan and US images is described before an iconic registration validated on phantom and a healthy subject. Secondly, a method allowing the projection of the US puncture tract into fluoroscopic images by the help of an external localizer is validated on phantom and 11 patients.
2/ To puncture for neuromodulation of the sacral nerve roots, we describe a registration method between CT scan and US images based on the segmentation of the interface between bone and muscle. This application is tested on phantom and one cadaver.
3/ The last chapter describes two different applications for prostate cancer. The first one is the registration between MRI and histology slices in the aim to build a statistical atlas of the cancer. The second one is a study on 14 patients about 3D distribution of prostate biopsies by an iconic registration of 3D US endorectal images. This approach is image-based, meaning that external localizer is not needed.
