Mécanique statistique hors d'équilibre et fluctuations dans les gaz granulaires

Abstract : The present thesis bears on a model dissipative system, namely, granular gases. By means of kinetic theory and stochastic methods, we have sought to determine the statistical properties of global observables, thus drawing a parallel with equilibrium approaches. Among those observables, the energy required to maintain the granular gas in a steady state plays a central role. It sure is of experimental interest, but it is also relevant as a measure of how far the system lies from equilibrium. This accounts for its ubiquity within the framework of fluctuation relations. We have completely characterized the distribution of the energy injected into the system. While we have ruled out its relevance, for the granular gas, to fluctuation relations, we have shown that the distribution of this macroscopic quantity could shed light on microscopic details of the dynamics. This work triggered a series of questions related to the issue of entropy in a dissipative system or to intrinsic limitations of fluctuation relations.
