Application aux Systèmes d'Imageries Projective et Tomographique d'Angiographie Cérébrale

Abstract : Whatever the field of application, matching of multimodality images became an essential aim of research in image processing. In a medical context, many imaging modalities provide the organism exploration but, because of the large variety of the physical phenomenon involved, the organs are analysed by each modality specific point of view. Fusion of multimodality images enables to overcome this problem using the complementarities of each modality to extract new data juxtaposing to initial data, bringing up matching to an essential way of analysis. This study deals with registration and matching data coming from planar and tomographic imaging system for cerebral angiography. Currently, X ray angiography (2D) is the most valuable way for analysing the intra-cranial vascular tree, however it has a poor flexibility and no three-dimensional information. In one hand, registration and matching of X ray angiography with Magnetic Resonance Imaging may complete the radiological imaging data, and, in the other hand, it may validate the latest technology of the newest imaging system. This methods is based on rigid and automatic registration of the different modalities. The originality comes from the lack of markers or external landmarks, registration just uses personal anatomic data. This work leads on numerous medical perspectives, in both therapy or diagnosis fields. For example, detailled and accurate information of vascular structures may be decisive in neurosurgery. Matching images acquired at separate times may also allows a more objective vascular pathology follow-up.
