Le supin roumain et la théorie des catégories mixtes

Abstract : This dissertation investigates the distribution and properties of a form traditionnally called « supine » in Romanian grammar, in a comparative perspective and within the generative framework. The proposed analysis treats Romanian Participle and Supine as a unique lexical item. The status of the supine is not mixed, but verbal or nominal according to the context. It is shown that the participle – supine is based on an externalization operation, that of the internal argument, which is realized in different ways according to the syntactic environment. This proposition is meant to explain certain special properties of the corresponding participial nominalizations. The status of the maximal projection of the supine is looked at: PP or untensed participial clauses, with their internal structure and properties, and their predicative or argumental nature.
