Synthèse de copolymères par greffage radicalaire de méthacrylate de méthyle sur polyoléfine par extrusion réactive, en vue de la nanostructuration.

Abstract : This work deals with free radical grafting of methyl methacrylate onto a poly(ehtylene-co-1-octene), through reactive processing. The chemical mechanisms involved in grafting reaction at high temperature and high viscosity have to be understood to control graft copolymers architecture. A model compound approach enabled to clarify and quantify several points such as grafting sites, reactions governing grafts molecular weights and side reactions leading to homopolymer. Thanks to a numerical simulation, this approach shows the deleterious influence of temperature on grafting reactions. Experiments performed through reactive processing confirm model approach tendencies and emphasize the influences of mixing conditions on morphology. Finally, a radical trapping approach is tested to limit homopolymerization. The latter does not significantly improve grafting efficiency but decreases chains molecular weights.
