Abstract : This thesis reports results obtained with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) during solid-liquid extraction. The effects of various parameters (polymer-analyte interactions, composition of the sample matrix, extraction solvents polarity) on the selectivity and the capacity of the MIP have been studied.
The first application has revealed the influence of hydrogen bonds during extraction of an organic sample with a MIP synthesized with methacrylic acid (MAA). Cross reactivity experiences performed with analogues of the template (glycyrrhetinic acid) have proved the power of the nature and the position of functional groups over the specificity of rebinding of the analytes by the MIP. The capacity of the SPE cartridge has been assessed with a standard solution, then with a plant extract and washing solvents adapted to the matrix.
Then, the polymer-analyte interactions have been studied with a saline aqueous matrix. Two MIPs respectively prepared with MAA and styrene-MAA, with clomiphene as template, have been characterized by Freundlich isotherms and applied to the preconcentration of the tamoxifen, a lipophilic and weakly basic molecule contained in hydrolysed urines. Adsorption equilibria and SPE experiments have displayed the part of hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic and ionic interactions in the retention of the analytes. The percolation of the urine through a hydrophobic sorbent before MIP-SPE, or directly through an MIP (MAA-styrene) with enhanced hydrophobic character, has allowed an increase of the extraction recovery with a reduced number of washing-steps.
