De l'influence des matières premières lithiques sur les comportements techno-économiques au Paléolithique moyen : l'exemple du Massif armoricain (France)

Abstract : In the Armorican Massif (north-western France), several Middle Palaeolithic industries are characterized by a mixed lithological component where flint is associated with a different raw material (dolerite, microgranite, quartz or volcano-sedimentary tuff). A techno-economic analysis of five of these lithic industries has been completed. In parallel, a thorough study of each raw material was conducted and included experimental knapping, mechanical testing and petrographic analysis.
The results of this study clearly demonstrate adaptive answers regarding the modalities of raw materials exploitation and the management of their products. They precisely define the influence of raw materials on lithic production.
This work contributes to an improved understanding of the technical and economic behaviours of Neandertal groups, while sustaining the debate about the Middle Palaeolithic variability.
