Outils numériques pour le relevé architectural et la restitution archéologique

Abstract : This thesis studies the process that leads from digital 3D acquisition to the creation of
virtual models intended for architecture and archaeology.
It begins with the study of 3D acquisition techniques used, the lasergrammetry and
architectural photogrammetry, and follows with a detailed comparative analysis of
these devices, based on multiple experiments carried out during collaborations
between the MAP-CRAI1 and the MAP-PAGE2.
Then, a study on architectural morphology is approached around its typological and
architectonic alternatives, followed by the theoretical questions raised by 3D
modeling and more specifically architectural modeling.
Various experiments are then presented, which form the basis for a study of the
development of digital tools intended to facilitate architectural geometrical modeling.
The principal contribution of this thesis is the association of this empirical study with
an analytical approach based on our theoretical knowledge in architecture, which
leads to the identification of constrained geometrical primitives, mouldings. The
digital tools developed this way in a CAD software define these adjustable
geometrical primitives of which the initial field of application, specific to the classical
architecture, will be extended to Khmer architecture.
Finally, a more advanced proposal corresponding to the teleology of this thesis –to
obtain in an effective way a result complying with the requirements of architectural
and archaeological modeling–, is integrated in a CG program.
