Composition Automatique de Documents Hypermédia Adaptatifs à partir d'Ontologies et de Requêtes Intentionnelles de l'Utilisateur

Abstract : The use of new communication technologies and the development of the Internet are creating
considerable interest in the field of education. Within this domain, the narrative structure of documents is of
particular importance for optimization of information transfer. Traditional hypermedia and hypertext techniques
add a new dimension to reading, but do not enable precise didactic strategies to be followed during the
composition of documents. The approach suggested here introduces some procedures based on ontologies for
composing structured documents.
The state of current research concerning Interactive Tutoring Systems (ITS), structure of documents and
ontologies is presented. Then definition are given for the concepts of Individual Virtual Document (IVD),
Information Brick (IB) and documentary composition. The composition process consists of four stages:
information retrieval, filtering, organization and assembly. In order for the composition to be automatic, the ITS
must be endowed with knowledge both of the domain and of didactics. Models for these are provide by a
Domain Ontology and a Pedagogical Ontology. The IBs that make up a document are precisely described and
characterized using these ontologies.
A method for adaptive pedagogical document composition is proposed and implemented in a prototype
called Sibyl. This method is based on association of ontologies. Nevertheless, the relevance of this approach is
affected by the predetermination of pedagogical roles when the IBs are characterized: the roles may vary
according to the application and the context in which the documents are made up. A methodology is therefore
introduced to determine automatically the pedagogical roles of IBs according to the intentions of a user and his
or her learning context.
