Abstract : This survey intended to examine ties between the demographic growth and the agrarian mutations and aimed to determine in what measure and what manner the evolution of the population of the Sahel influenced on the agrarian changes.
The space of the Sahel of the Doukkalas was indeed the place of considerable transformations, however to unequal speeds, and to different tendencies, of a space to the other, or even of an exploitation to the other.
The colonial period, then the one of the independence, saw to essentially increase at a time the weight economic and human of the region of the Sahel of the Doukkalas, marked by the increase of the population on his/her/its peripheries, on crests of the dead, dominant cliff the depression of the Oulja and earths of course of the Sahel Intérieur. This new demographic dynamics was concomitant to an improvement of conditions of the agricultural production and a substantial development of productions oriented toward the export.
It is another logic that began to govern the farming economy of the Sahel then, not only by the importance on behalf of the production dedicated to the sale, or by the nature of markets (national and international) and of techniques, but also because the earth (to the Oulja notably) became, her also, matter to transactions merchants after his/her/its " privatization " and dragged a real exaltation of reclamations.
These transformations, didn't touch all the population, nor all the territory of the Sahel. A big part of the population and the territory preserved features of a traditional peasantry where persisted even convenient and traditional agro-pastoral values and remained aside from these mutations. Nevertheless, facing these changes, the local population didn't linger to put in question his/her/its system of traditional agricultural production. Progressively this population began to adopt, it also, cultures and techniques introduced by the European colonists. The change that took place then was not a simple reorientation of the production system, but a true transformation that touched the technical and social foundations of the agricultural production system
