La génèse et la dynamique des nouvelles entreprises

Abstract : In this dissertation we examine the empirical processes of new firm creation and evolution. We construct a microeconomic model of new firm creation that pays particular attention to the uncertainty structure of the objective function and the impact of the public subsidies and tax exemptions on the initial condition of enterprises' creation. Using the French SINE98 (System of Information about New Enterprises) data set collected by INSEE, we construct and estimate an econometric model of the initial conditions at a new firms creation. We then propose a model of the dynamics of the distribution of firm sizes using a log-normal transition kernel. In this context, we consider the implications of Gibrat's Law when examining the size distribution of new enterprises. Next, we construct and estimate a model of the mployment dynamics and survival of new enterprises. The model takes into consideration the endogeneity of initial financial structure of investment projects (such as the level of initial capital, the presence of a bank loan and the existence of the public subsidies) and estimates the model by simulated maximum likelihood using a GHK-simulator. Finally, we evaluate the impact of public subsidies and tax exemptions impact on the total employment created by new firms.
