Contribution à la modélisation des systèmes multimédias et hypermédias

Abstract : The temporal, logical and semantic complexity of multimedia and hypermedia systems makes necessary the use of formal techniques for their specification and for verifying their logical and temporal properties. This thesis introduces first a new formal technique, based on extended timed Petri Nets, for the modeling of multimedia and hypermedia systems. This model, called Time Stream Petri Nets (TSPN), allows the temporal non-determinism of distributed multimedia systems to be specified by associating arcs outgoing from places with temporal intervals. Moreover TSPN introduce a formal semantics of synchronization in weakly synchronous systems. This formal semantics, defined with the help of 9 firing rules which can be selectively associated to transitions, allows the synchronization non-determinism induced by the temporal variability of processings to be mastered. Therefore TSPN allow an accurate, complete and easy modeling of multimedia synchronization constraints. This thesis consider also the subclass of TSPN build with the help of Allen's synchronization operators. This class, called Structured Time Stream Petri Net (STSPN) allows temporal properties of multimedia systems to be easily checked and offers formal bases for the abstract representation of multimedia logical and temporal structures. Finally this thesis introduces another new model extending TSPN and called Hierarchical TSPN (HTSPN). This extension which inherits TSPN properties allows hypermedia components to be modeled with the help of a unifying formalism and introduces a formal semantics of hypermedia synchronization. Moreover HTSPN offer a modular and hierarchical methodology for the specification and validation of hypermedia systems and more generally of " time constrained " systems.
