Cristallochimie et luminescence de quelques oxydes et fluorures de l'indium

Abstract : With the prospect of application for the detection of low energy solar neutrinos the crystal chemistry and optical properties of some oxides and fluorides of indium have been investigated. Single crystals of the selected compounds have been prepared by several appropriate methods, i.e. flux growth, chemical vapor transport or Bridgman. The crystal structure determinations and luminescence studies were performed either on powders or on single crystals. The intrinsic luminescence of In2TiO5, In2Si2O7, In2Ge2O7 is ascribed to a charge transfer between O2- and In3+ occuring in indium groups. In contrast, the luminescence of In6WO12 appears characteristic of charge transfer transitions within tungstate groups. The lifetime of the indium excited state is of the order of a few microsecondes at very low temperature. The luminescence of Ce3+ in some host lattices, i.e. InxSc1-xBO3, A2A'InF6 (A=Rb, K A=K, Na) was investigated. A hypothesis based on the In(III)-Ce(III) redox was proposed to explain a progressive decrease of the intensity of the blue-green emission of Ce3+ ions in In3+ sites of the fluoroindate host lattices by irradiation into their 4f->5d absorption bands and the simultaneous apparition of a red one (phenomenon thermally or optically reversible). The crystal structure of LiInF4 was determined. It appears as a new one among the AMF4 family (A = alcaline element).
