Nature, statut et traitements informatisés des
données en archéologie : les enjeux des systèmes
d'informations archéologiques

Abstract : In archaelogy, the data, that is the physical remains and the information that the carry, as well as the intellectual constructs based upon them, are the key points of research. The registration of these data in a logical structure which permits their recovery and analysis is essential. The introduction of computers to archaelogy ease the systematisation of such archival registration and, so, renders the information more accessible. The future issues facing databases will be the assurance of data accessibility in terms of their ability to search across different databases and the long-term viability of data. To ensure for the above will require the standardisation of the unit of documentation, the inventory codes, the descriptions and the language used therein. Such standardisation must also be coupled to a minimum core structure for data management. One solution, linked to a comparative study of existing databases, is presented in this thesis.
