Structures spatiales et mises en réseaux de villes pour la régionalisation des territoires

Abstract : Regionalization is a spatial process as much as a territorial process. It is spatial because it is materialized on inherited spatial structures. We wanted to put in prospect, in the process or the wills of regionalization, the system formed with the concepts of territories, cities and networks.
Also, we propose to define territories around urban networks which give rise to think the regionalizations desirable or desired starting from the properties of the territories and their organization by representing spatial interactions between the cities. Urban networks are created around whose the regionalization of the territories would be possible.
The urban networking is basing on the conceptual and theoretical corpus operation and properties of the systems of cities, and hold account of the characteristics of the system of cities studied through the criteria of the size of the cities and of their localization. These only criteria determine spacing between the cities and their position in the hierarchy of levels in the system, which integrates and reveals the subjacent or local spatial structures.
Two categories of urban networks are defined:
• the urban networks of proximity and vicinity, based on constraints of spacing;
• the hierarchical urban networks, based on constraints of size of the cities and principles of fitment of hierarchical structures (an administrative principle, with a strict hierarchy, or a market principle, with a non-strict hierarchy).
The formalization and the representations of the urban networking are materialized by the graph theory which allows an easy modelling of the hierarchical organizations, in particular of fitments of levels, by one of its subsets, the trees.
These methods and the performance evaluation of regionalizations which they generate make on two examples with different problemical and scales. The first application shows a spatial approach in archaeology to help to release the principal structures of a settlement system of a territory around the ancient City of Luteva (Lodève, Hérault, France) during the Haut-Empire period (1st century to 3rd century after J.-C.). The second application consists in defining a theoretical Mediterranean arc starting from the system of European cities without administrative grid.
