Etude par Resonance Magnétique de Cobaltates NaxCoO2

Abstract : This thesis manuscript describes a nuclear magnetic resonance study (59Co and 23Na nucleus) of NaxCoO2 cobalt oxides, whose remarkable thermoelectric and superconducting properties arouse great interest.
We studied the two extreme concentrations x=0 and x=1. Na1CoO2 is a non-magnetic band insulator: all cobalt sites have a +3 oxidization state and low spin state S=0. In contrast, the CoO2 compound, where the formal Co valence state is +4, appears to be close to the (metal-insulator) Mott transition. This shows the strength of electronic correlations in this system.
