Les petites et moyennes entreprises face à la mondialisation

Abstract : In the context of an exponentially developing world exchange international competition is putting small and medium-sized enterprises under permanent pressure. Market liberalization and free trade commit an increasing amount of companies' developments funds to internalization strategy. The purpose of this research work is to determine whether this strategy offers a real economic opportunity to the SME and to bring to light the use of successful key factors in order to optimize the companies' growth. The work is built around three different parts.
The first section analyses theoretical elements of the globalization phenomena and the classical and modern international trade theories. This offers the opportunity to highlight the interrelations between the globalization phenomena, exchange internationalisation consequences and SME activities.
The study's second section is about the companies' position, strength and weakness analyses in terms of internationalisation. The primary aim of this research is to draw on previous studies to determine the contributory factors to international expansion. Two studies have been made in order to get this information. The first one is based on database estimation; 253 companies and 10 variables have been taken into account. This study confirmed the importance of a specific organisation for international affairs as well as an open structure for communication. The second study is based on statistical estimation of two SME survey results. Primarily, the results show the dominant influence of dynamism and openness of the manager. They also show the importance of the technology level of the company.
Finally in the third section, the study reflects on the strategic tools that make internationalisation possible. In this perspective, it considers the companies' strategic position from an international point of view, a determination of the best strategy for SME and a compilation of the possible techniques in terms of internationalisation competences' development. This study recommends strategies of differenciation, focalisation, development of core competences and competitive cooperation. In addition, companies must adress their weaknesses with knowledge management and partnerships development
