Hydrodynamique à l'interface solide-liquide : étude par mesures
de forces de surfaces et simulations de dynamique moléculaire

Abstract : The nature of the hydrodynamic boundary condition of the flow of a simple liquid near
a wall is examined through experiment and simulation.
In the first part of this work, we have performed surface force experiments on various
systems. We have shown that the characteristics of the surface play a large role. We have
observed a slip boundary condition only when the liquid does not wet the solid.
The second part of the work addresses the combined effect of wetting properties and
surface roughness. This was done through molecular dynamics simulations. In particular we
have shown that slip of the fluid at the channel boundaries can be drastically increased by
using patterned surfaces. We have also studied the influence of a microscopic heterogeneous
boundary condition, on a macroscopic flow.
