des états de Rydberg :
Contrôle par champ électrique et par résonance de Förster

Abstract : This thesis deals with long-range interactions between cold Rydberg atoms. It describes
results of the first realization of the dipole blockade, characterized in an ensemble of atoms
by a strong limitation of the excitation to Rydberg states, due to the shift of the energy levels
linked to the dipole-dipole interactions between Rydberg atoms. The importance of the
dipole blockade has been underlined in quantum information with the possible realization of
two qubits conditionnal quantum gates. The evidence for the dipole blockade is brought using
two different configurations: in the presence of a static electric field and using Förster resonances.
Getting the dipole blockade requires a very good control of experimental conditions :
compensation for stray electric fields, control of ionization sources, control of the intensity of
excitation to stay below the power saturation threshold. Complementary experiments have
been carried out, such as the study of dipolar forces between Rydberg atoms responsible for
Penning ionization, which can be at the origin of the formation of an ultra-cold plasma. Another
study concerns the excitation transfert at Föster resonance, whose coherence properties
have been studied by an original spectroscopic technique close to spectral hole-burning.
