Étude microphysique des nuages et des précipitations par radar polarimétrique et simulation numérique. Influence du milieu de propagation sur la mesure de la réflectivité.

Abstract : In the first part, a real case of intense precipitation, in the Lago Maggiore alpine region, is investigated from radar data retrieved during the international MAP campaign which was conducted to understand the role of mountains in formation and development of precipitation. Three radars, including a polarimetric one, enabled to subtly analyze the dynamical and microphysical evolution of precipitation of 25/09/1999. Moreover, using the Meso-NH model, the different microphysical processes involved in the hydrometeor growing were quantified.
In the second part, attention is turned to clouds (non precipitating part of the condensed atmospheric water); they are a non negligible microwave attenuation source although they are generally undetectable. A model of warm clouds was built and radar observations were simulated to investigate quantitatively the influence of cloud droplets on radar measurement
