écoulements dans les silos verticaux. Mise en oeuvre d'une méthode d'investigation expérimentale et numérique.

Abstract : Our work falls within the scope of the study of ensiled granular material emptying. The phenomena governing
the flow which is generated by the emptyings of ensiled granular material are, to this day, not well known. The study of the existing experimental techniques brought us to break new ground by developing our own three dimensional experimental method. This method consists in filming the evolution of the free surface lit by laser plans. All the tests are set in a lab and based on an adjustable model which make it possible to use a flat bottom and a simple or a double hopper. The granular materials used are characterised by using the usual
methods. The use of these materials enables us to obtain the various flow patterns and to study them. The experimental technique which we present here makes it possible for us to show the influence of a change in the flow pattern on the vertical speed of the free surface
and on the flow rate. Contrary to the other existing experimental methods, the system we have though up is a non intrusive and is transposable to life size silos. At the same time, we develop here a 2D simulation code (DEMSI) which enables us to simulate the various existing flow types. With this particular code we get the
speeds within the flow, the changes in the free surface, as well as the inter-particular contact forces. The comparison of the experimental and of the numerical approaches shows the shape of the simulated free surface is in complete agreement with the experimental
results.
