Modélisation du champ électrique modifié par la charge d'espace injectée

Abstract : Some electrostatic applications, in particular the electrostatic precipitators, are using the corona discharges in gases from electrodes with high curvature. These electrodes are injecting charges in the gas and the resulting space charge modifies the distribution of electrical field between the electrodes. The aim of our work was to develop a numerical code to determine the distributions of electrical field and charge density in a blade-plate configuration, the charge being injected by corona discharge on the blade edge.
The finite elements method FEM is used to solve Poisson equation and the method of characteristic MOC is used to solve the charge conservation equation. The solution of the two coupled equations is obtained by successive approximations; a structured mesh is redefined at each step of the iterative scheme; this eliminates the numerical diffusion. The redefinition of the structured mesh is the most important part of the work. The algorithm converges quite well for various space charge distributions on the injecting blade. The numerical solutions obtained retaining a charge injection law on the blade give results which compare satisfactorily with current density measurements on the planar electrode of a blade-plate set-up.
