Rôle du cervelet dans la navigation : étude du mécanisme cellulaire de dépression synaptique à long terme des fibres parallèles

Abstract : For over a decade, the cerebellum has been proposed to participate in acquisition of cognitive processes like spatial navigation. Heterosynaptic parallel fibers long-term depression (LTD) is a synaptic plasticity mechanism known to be essential in motor learning. The aim of my thesis was to investigate the possible role of this LTD cellular mechanism in navigation. The performances of L7-PKCI transgenic mice which have a specific lack of cerebellar LTD were challenged in new navigational tasks designed in our research group. In these tasks, L7-PKCI mice were impaired in acquiring an efficient trajectory to reach a goal. These results suggest that an essential role of the cerebellum in navigation, and particularly this LTD cellular mechanism, is to adapt the motor output online in order to realize an optimized trajectory.
