Abstract : After having introduced specificities of various existing optical CAD tools, a contribution to the development of an oriented "Circuit" approach was made. This approach is based on the use of S-matrix after its generalization for optical components thanks to the use of the Jones matrix formalism.
First of all, several passive components such as waveguide, mirror, insulator or optical coupler were modelled in a descriptive way. Then in a more technological way, some specificities related to manufacturing technology were inserted in each model. Thus, a library of components containing optical fibre, optics integrated on glass or semi-conductor were generated.
This library of components is then implemented in a RF simulator oriented "Circuit" enabling to simulate optical circuits. Several examples are studied among which Fabry-Perot or Mach-Zehnder interferometers, wavelength filters or integrated circuits on glass.
