Contrôle actif dual des écoulements turbulents pariétaux. Expériences et Simulations Numériques Directes.

Abstract : Turbulence affects significantly the properties of wall-bounded flows mainly by increasing the wall shear stress and mixing. This investigation deals with the concept of a dual active control strategy in order to reduce the turbulent drag. Two types of control are interacting, an open loop control by a localized and time periodical blowing through a spanwise slot and a closed loop control through a suboptimal scheme.
The main goal is to force the turbulence to a more predictable and controlable state by application of an imposed localized unsteadiness.
We begin by characterizing the effects of both strategies on the wall turbulence separately. An experimental study is performed in order to investigate the effect of unsteadiness induced by a local time periodical blowing. Since the suboptimal control procedure cannot yet be implemented experimentally, its repercussion on the wall turbulence is analyzed by using Direct Numerical Simulations. Finally, we show that a dual control strategy, combining the two manipulations (Periodical + Suboptimal), can be an efficient control method in order to reduce the turbulent wall shear stress and to increase the controllability of the near wall turbulence.
