Etoiles à neutrons et ondes gravitationnelles

Abstract : We present population synthesis aiming to recover the statistical properties
of the real population of galactic radio pulsars, biased by selection
effects. We confirm that neutron stars are not born in majority as fast
rotators and that the magnetic field don't decay significantly during pulsar
life.The knowledge of the total pulsar population permits us to study the
magnetar sub-population, and also to model the pulsar contribution to the
gravitational emission (galactic and extra-galactic) and to deduce its
detectability by laser beam interferometers like VIRGO. The knowledge of the
detectable population statistical properties permits us to optimize the
search for individual sources in the parameter space (frequency and sky
directions). Concerning the astrophysical stochastic background, we show
that it would be detected as early as the interferometers second generation,
by correlating two detectors.
