Les Libyens en Egypte (XVe siècle a.C.-IIe siècle p.C.). Onomastique et histoire

Abstract : This Ph. D. is divided in three main chapters and two volumes. Volume I.1 “Libyque et vieux libyque” compares the ancient “Libyan” lexemes transcribed in the Egyptian documents, from the New Kingdom till the Roman Period, with the Libyan words occurring in Greek, Latin, Punic, Neo-Punic, Latino-Punic, Arabic and Libyan inscriptions. The author concludes that the Egyptian texts preserve some traces of the existence of an Ancient Libyan Language he calls “vieux libyque”, the likely ancestor of the “libyque” of Classical Antiquity. Volume I. 2 “Vieux libyque et Libyens” studies the occurrences of Libyan titles and names in the Egyptian society from the historical and sociological point of view. Volume II. “Onomasticon” is a prosopography of Egyptian people with sure, likely and possible Libyan names.
