Capacité de traitement temporel des durées courtes chez l'enfant entre 1 & 4 ans

Abstract : The temporal dimension is fundamental for the life of the human being. In the absence of organ dedicated to the perception of this physical size, how one succeed in extracting this information of their environment. The current knowledge allow to categorize various modes of temporal treatment according to the scaleof time to estimate. The most usual durations are the short durations (lower at the hour). There is within these short durations a distinction relative to the mode of treatment: perception and estimation of duration. The perception of duration concerns the durations lower than the second and consists in extracting information received from the environment during this subjective present a mental representation of this duration which can be exploited by the individual. The data of the literature converge in favour of a central mechanism of treatment possessing to his(her) source a clock. Numerous experiments allowed to determine the characteristics psychophysics and neurobiological of the functioning of this internal clock. This information allowed the elaboration of more or less accomplished theoretical models. The current knowledge are synthetized in a first part of this document. They notably allow to put in evidence of the gaps and the contradictions as for the implementation of this system of treatment during the small childhood.
According to a developpemental model, the temporal treatment bases on a referent period. The sensibility of the system of temporal treatment would be better for durations close to this particular endogenous period. Compte-tenu of the ambiguities raised by the data of the literature, we attempted to study these parameters of the temporal treatment (referent period and threshold of sensibility) at the children between 1 and 4 years by tasks of perception and production. Our results allowed to determine the developpemental stages of the implementation of the system of treatment and to express new hypotheses, valid for this critical period of the psychomotor, cognitive and neurobiological development, as for these fundamental parameters. So, the reference period, the reflection of the pace of the clock, remains constant during the small childhood but would win in stability. At the same time, a threshold of sensibility would become actual. It was found at the same moment during tasks of production and perception and he does not allow to verify that the treatment is better near reference period. On the other hand, our results suggest that this threshold of sensibility must be considered in absolute value and not in relative value.
