Transport de liquide et de particules dans un bord de Plateau

Abstract : This work presents the experimental study of transport of liquid and solid spheres through Plateau border.
Foams containing particles have many industrial applications. The bubbles–particles attachment interactions and collisions have been studied many times. But transport of particles through liquid phase of foam has not. The originality of this work consists in realising measures at Plateau border's scale, with focus on surfactant's influence. This study allows to get new results and highlight disagreements between experiences and theories.
We have developed a new apparatus, the Plateau Border Apparatus, in a double purpose : the study of liquid transport and the interface mobility characterization. Thickness of Plateau Border adjoining films, Plateau border cross section and pressure drop have been measured as a function of the injected liquid flow rate. Later, the shear surface viscosity is extracted from the fitted values.
The measure of shear surface viscosity obtained with the PBA, has thrown into relief two “mobile/rigid” interface cases and the existence of contradictions with experiences of foam drainage. By this way, we have discovered the nature of interfacial rheology of solution, then it was possible to study through experiences the effect of the interface mobility of Plateau border. The effect of the interface mobility on the particle settling through Plateau borders has been quantified and the effect of the position of the settling particle is important. The particle allows to sound the mobility of the interface and to corroborate the surface viscosity results obtained with the PBA. Later, the effect of the interface mobility on particle to drag has been quantified.
The PBA is a new apparatus for foam study : it has the advantage over Sheludko balance apparatus to work not on static but on dynamic conditions.
