Les systèmes d'instruments : méthodes d'analyse et perspectives de conception

Abstract : This thesis is about operators' tools in a broadcasting company. These workers
are in charge of maintenance operations. The framework of this study is the theory of
‘instruments mediated activity'. It is about the psychological approach of tools, named
instruments. It implies that instruments are developed by the subjects themselves during
processes of instrumental genesis. In this theory, the development of instruments is seen as
a continuation of design in usage. Our work is about the instruments as a whole as
organized by the subjects to face a wide variety of situations: we then talked about
instruments systems. In this research, we widen the theoretical scope by introducing a
methodological approach dedicated to instruments systems and by proposing new
perspectives for anthropocentred design based on the characteristics of instruments
