Sur la notion d'observation en sémantique

Abstract : This thesis presents several notions of observation in the field of semantics, and explores their relationships. We recall the definitions of the simply-typed lambda-calculus and its models, and introduce the notion of observation induced by a model. In the first part, we present the links between this notion and relative definability. We give examples in unary PCF, finitary PCF and the strongly stable model of PCF, building on previous work by Bucciarelli, Malacaria and Longley.
In a second part, we study the notion of observation in a language with side-effects. We build a model based on Fraenkel Mostowski sets, which we further refine with logical relation to distinguish the public part of the store from the hidden part, where invariants are preserved. We thus make a link with security issues.
Finally, we investigate how to represent the length of execution of a program in a denotational setting. We give a categorical method, based on a monad, to denote tha length without making it observable. We apply this technique to the model of coherence spaces and to the games of Hyland and Ong. Ze show that the latter is fully abstract.
