Méthodologie pour décrire le gonflement multi-échelle de calcaires siliceux soumis à la réaction alcali-silice dans le matériau béton

Abstract : This work proposes a multi-scale swelling model of two siliceous limestones submitted to alkali-silica reaction. In the presence of portlandite and alkali basis, the attack of the silica network by hydroxyl ions promotes the accumulation of Q3 tetrahedrons responsible for the chemical swelling of the siliceous inclusions. Due to their confinement in the carbonated matrix, their expansion induces the swelling of the siliceous limestone aggregates, themselves involving a swelling of the concrete. The texture of the carbonated matrix appears as an influent parameter in the transmission of the stress generated by the siliceous inclusions to the cement matrix.

The two siliceous limestones present a pessimum effect observed on concrete formulations made with reactive sand and gravels. A chemical model based on the swelling of the reactive sand and the none expansive fixation of alkalis by the initial Q3 tetrahedrons of the gravels well describes the observed phenomena.
