Lumière diffuse et microsphères multicouches : calculs et réalisations

Abstract : We have developed calculation code based on Mie theory, in order to predict the angular and spectral response of dielectric or metallic microspheres coated by concentrically multilayer stacks. First, we had analysed with precision the influence of parameters such as size effect, coating effect, radius tolerance... The analogy with classical optical functions (bloomed, mirror, filter, separator...) has retained our attention, and we have proved its validity up to radius near to 3 µm, critical value below which resonances prevail. Furthermore, a colour study allowed us to quantify many specific coloured effects for these multilayer spheres.
The second part of our work consisted in realising micro-components. So, we have entirely configured a sputtering technology by ions beam (I.B.S.), to make metallic and dielectric optical thin films. To coat microspheres, we actuated them with a random movement by vibrant membrane. Results proved that our process runs correctly for a serial fabrication, opening the way to interferential optical powders. Moreover, characterisation problem is treated thanks to laser diffusometer and spectro-diffusometer, to attempt to measure an isolated sphere or microspheres collections.
