Télémétrie laser sur satellites et combinaison de techniques géodésiques. Contributions aux systèmes de référence terrestres et applications.

Abstract : The present quality of space-geodetic techniques allows analysts to compute time series of geodetic products (Earth Orientation Parameters (EOPs) and terrestrial station positions for instance). These new products have to be used for the realization of Terrestrial Reference Systems, in constant improvement. They should also allow us to study physical phenomena acting on the Earth's rotation and crustal motions. My PhD thesis is directly linked to this scientific context and to its numerous challenges. The first goal of this work was to build and apply a method for the computation of EOP and station position times series through the analysis of Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) measurements. Indeed this technique is an important basis of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF). In order to validate this method, we carried out the analysis of twelve years (1993-2004) of SLR data on both satellites LAGEOS. Individual geodetic techniques have great potentialities. But they really reveal their capabilities through their combination. In this context, the french Groupe de Recherche en Géodésie Spatiale (GRGS) carried out an experiment : the combination of five techniques (SLR/LLR/GPS/DORIS and VLBI) at the observational level over the year 2002. I was actively involved in this experiment. Its main goal was to demonstrate the power of such an approach to compute pole coordinate and Universal Time time series.
