Interface Homme-Machine Multimodale pour la Télé-Micromanipulation

Abstract : Recent studies on the human factors have shown some limitations for teleoperators to perceive and control the interactions during the manipulation of objects at a micrometric and nanometric scale. The main problem results from the important value of the scale factors between the operator and the micro-environment (position : 10-9 m and force : 10-6 N), from the inadequacy of the interaction and the observation help in comparison with the operator's action context, and moreover, from the unfitness of the operator to understand the adhesion forces at a micrometric scale. So, the human-machine interface has a dominant role in the tele-mictromanipulation systems. Ergonomic interfaces and devices which are adapted to the human operator's sensorial modality must also be researched.
The work presented in this thesis concerns the improvement of the " Perception – Communication -
Interaction " triptych between the operator and the microworld by including new interaction techniques. These new human-machine interfaces (HMI) aim to assist the operator in his handling tasks by providing him a contextual help and perfectly well adapted to the constraints of the microworld (scaling effects, micro-environment, tasks, etc). In this context, we have developed an intuitive and multimodal human-machine interface, dedicated to tele-micromanipulation of micrometric objects and working under the field of view of several optical microscopes.
