Accession à la propriété et modes de vie en maison individuelle des familles modestes installées en périurbain lointain toulousain. Les "captifs" du périurbain?

Abstract : This thesis examines, on the basis of a comprehensive survey, ways of life among Toulousan detached home-owners and, in particular, those who face considerable constraints in becoming settled due to the conditions of the real estate and property market. Although the outer suburban area remains a predominantly middle class area, it is becoming socially diversified, particularly through the distribution of social acquisition. Whereas for many outer suburbans, this way of living reveals a desire to will one's own environment, for the low-income families interviewed, the acquisition and location of a detached house are far from sufficient and require an enormous effort. A large gap exists between the promise of a better life implied by the acquisition of a single-family home in the outer suburbs and the reality of certain economically fragile households who feel like “captives”. This exploration of housing circumstances, reveals the limitations of a model deeply ingrained in French society, that of the single-family home in the outer suburbs.
