Influence des paramètres de vibrations sur la rhéologie d'un milieu granulaire : Application au remplissage des fusibles

Abstract : One way to protect electrical installation from over-current is the use of fuse. The fuses of Ferraz Shawmut are filled with sand to enhance the extinction of the electrical arc due to overcurrent. Optimize the sand grains arrangement by vibration improve the fuses properties. A protocol was settled to build reproducible reference packings which are submitted to vertical sinusoidal vibration. The kind of motion exhibited by the sand grains and the packing fraction are studied as a function of both the frequency and the dimensionless acceleration. Master curves are derived and the results are interpreted in terms of the energy transferred to the packing per unit vibration cycle. The effect of the initial filling height of sand is most important than this of the inner container diameter. Finally a characterisation of relaxed vibrated grains arrangements is realized by X-rays tomography. Packing fraction, grains size distribution, pore size distribution and grain-grain contact area distribution are calculated.
