Atomes ultrafroids dans des réseaux de lumière : étude théorique du magnétisme, de la température et des structures multidimensionnelles

Abstract : This thesis deals with the theoretical study of optical lattices, using numerical models in one, two or three dimensions. We first present a systematic method of elaboration and classification of multi-dimensional optical lattices, using crystallographic arguments. A semi-classical approach, based on Monte Carlo simulations is introduced in the case of one-dimensional optical lattices, for different atomic transitions. This model, as well as the quantum band model, are used to study the temperature and the magnetism of bright and grey optical lattices. The general magnetic behavior that is found, is in good agreement with recent experiments. We finaly study a new type of grey two-dimensional optical lattice, which consists in a periodic array of antidots. The atomic dynamics in this lattice, is analyzed by pump-probe spectroscopy, leading to evidence of an original dynamic behavior.
