Confinement par laser d'atomes froids dans une cavité gravitationnelle et dans un piège à pompage optique

Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to study two new radiation traps for neutral atoms. The first trap is a vertical cavity for the confinement of slow atoms. We used a curved atomic mirror formed by an evanescent light wave extending from a glass surface into the vacuum, the second mirror being simply gravity. We demonstrated paraxial confinement of slow atoms in such a cavity Experimental techniques for matter-wave optics and interferometry can now be envisaged. The second trap is a new radiation pressure trap which relies on optical pumping and does not require any magnetic field. It employs six circularly polarized divergent beams and works on the red of a Jg → Je = Jg + 1 atomic transition with Jg > 0.
