- Dynamique de l'interaction dipôle-dipôle dans un gaz de Rydberg froid

Abstract : This thesis is in keeping with collisions and interactions implying ultracold atomic and molecular cesium samples. The work presented is closely linked to the field of atomic and molecular Bose-Einstein condensation, Rydberg atoms, cold plasmas and quantum information.
Three experiments are described in this thesis. In the first one, caracterisation of the elastic collision regime in a hybrid optical and magnetic trap was done. This study is of great importance to evaluate in such a trap the possibility to reach Bose-Einstein condensation with cesium atoms. In the second experiment, a dipole trap of cesium molecules, obtained in the focus of a CO2 laser, permit us to achieve a dense and cold sample of molecules, created via photoassociation of cold atoms. Trapping simultaneously atoms and molecules allowed us to study cold inelastic molecule-atom collisions. A measure of this collision rate is given in the manuscript.
In the third experiment, long range dipole-dipole interactions inside a cold sample of Rydberg atoms are investigated in detail. Those interactions are clearly resolved and caracterized using an original high resolution optical spectroscopy.
