Spectroscopie moléculaire : calcul de spectres, mesures des températures de rotation et de vibration dans les plasmas thermiques

Abstract : This work deals with vibrational and rotational temperatures of molecules in thermal plasmas.

This thesis had two main parts : the first is devoted to the molecular spectra calculation and the second part is devoted to the spectra comparison in four different experimental conditions.

A code of calculation has been created to simulate spectra of diatomic molecules. It has been essentially applied on the radicals C2, CN, the molecule N2 and the molecular ion N2+ for variable parameter vibration and rotation temperatures. This part begins with a description of the diatomic molecule and its properties. Then the method to calculate spectra is clarified :
calculation of wavelengths,
their intensity,
application of an apparatus function and obtaining of the final spectrum.
The influence of rotation and vibration temperatures on lines intensities is taken into account as well as the influence of the apparatus function. These spectra are calculated, for a given experiment, to determine these two parameters by comparison of spectra.

This method has been used on four different plasma types :
a flame oxy-acetylene,
a wall stabilised arc in a Maecker chamber,
an ICP plasma torch,
a discharge between two liquid electrodes.
Rotational and vibrational temperatures have been determined by comparison between experimental and calculated spectra and then temperature profiles have been obtained.

In the appendix, necessary numerical values for calculations of spectra are listed for the Swan system of C2 , the violet system of CN, the second positive system of N2 and the first negative system of N2+.
