Dyamique réactionnelle dans des environnements restreints

Abstract : The main purpose of this work was to study the intra-molecular proton transfer and isomerisation inside nano-cavities. Three photochromic molecules have been studied using absorption UV-vis spectroscopy: the thioindigo, the salicylidene-aniline and the 2-(2',4'-dinitrobenzyl)pyridine. In aqueous solutions of solvents in which the photochromic molecule is soluble shifts of the absorption bands have been associated to the inclusion complex formation with cyclodextrins.
In the second part of this work, to answer to the same questions, to know the influence of a restricted environment on the molecular movements, we studied the system a-cyclodextrin/4-methyl-pyridine (aCD/4MP). The initial idea was to use the measurement of the tunneling splitting of the methyl group of 4MP as a highly sensitive probe of the potential energy surface (PES) of the aCD cavity. This approach was followed in an early inelastic neutron scattering experiment on the crystalline complex aCD/4MP at low temperatures. However, for this system, the major part of our work was dedicated to the analysis of the reversible liquid-solid phase transition discovered in the solution of 4MP containing different quantities of aCD, with the increase of the temperature in the domain 40 - 70 °C.
